An alternative to sintered metals and metal foams
Open celled porous metal Different pore sizes Volume porosity > 55%
Low density High strength Very good permeability
High operating temperature High specific surface area Good thermal conductivity
Porous aluminum is manufactured through casting. Being a high porosity metal, it is permeable over the entire surface. It has several advantages compared to sintered metals and metal foams: broad range of precisely defined Filter grades / pore sizes, homogeneous structure, high strength, extra strong cast interface between porous and non-porous parts.
The industrial production of porous aluminum started in 1989. Since then this porous metal has been used in a wide range of applications: filter and filter elements, silencers, heat exchangers, lightweight construction components and many other applications.
